| 14th Mar 2010 | vs Herts and Kent A & B Squads. Dame Alice Owens School. EN6 2DU. Please meet 9.20am |
| 0 - 0 vs Herts. Though the team started their first county game fairly strogly they were unable to convert their several chances into goals. This pattern continued in the second half so Herts escaped with a draw. 0 - 2 vs Kent A. Against a strong, physical Kent side the team played well below their potential and let Kent take the early initiative. After several good saves from keeper Nic Rhodes the inevitible goal was scored just before half time. Kent continued to pressure the defence after the interval and were soon 2 - 0 up. Any attacks Essex did manage to produce were well dealt with by the Kent defence who were never really put under any serious pressure so the scoreline stayed at 2 - 0 to Kent. 0 - 0 vs Kent B. Against a still physical but less skilful Kent B team Essex made a couple of positional changes and played a much better game. The defence, now much more secure, dealt with the infrequent attacks well and slowly the team began to put some good moves together. However they were still unable to convert their chances into goals. | |

| 18th Apr 2010 | vs Beds. BEDFORD HOCKEY CENTRE, Chester Rd, Queen's Park, Bedford.MK40 4HL Meet 12.20 |
| Beds 2 : Essex 5 Essex again started slowly and let Beds take the early initiative in the first of three twenty minute sessions even though captain Chloe Menear did her utmost to hold the defence together with many important tackles. Essex rarely managed to work the ball out of their own half and were too often caught in possession or their passes were misdirected. They were probably lucky to only concede one goal during this period. After a couple of positional changes by the coaches during the first break the team started to play better and were soon rewarded with a goal by Lily-Mai. Bryony Pipe playing at centre half instead of her usual right half position gained in confidence as play progressed and was soon helping set the forwards on the attack. Faster and more accurate passing resulted in a further two goals before the second break. Lily-Mai was soon on the scoresheet again when the Beds goalkeeper let in her hard, first time shot from a short corner between her pads. The 5th and final Essex goal came from a well worked move out of defence which was quickly played up to the forwards by Emily before Annabel slipped the ball to Lily-Mai who was unmmarked in the circle and calmly put her shot wide of the exposed keeper. Unfortunately a tiring defence allowed Beds to score a sloopy consolation goal just before the final whistle. | |
